Authorized RoseWater Energy Dealer Whole-Home Battery Backup
For Greater Boston and New England

When the grid fails, a RoseWater Energy system keeps your house running with zero transfer time. The lights stay on, the network stays up and nothing has to reboot.

Boston Backup Power

What is Boston Backup Power?

Boston Backup Power designs whole-home battery backup and power protection systems for technology-rich homes in Eastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Islands, coastal Rhode Island and southern New Hampshire. We are an authorized RoseWater Energy dealer and a division of Boston Automations, the Norwood home technology firm.

We size the system with you, specify it, coordinate the licensed electrician who connects it, bring it into your home's network and control system, and support it for as long as you own it. Start with a Power Plan or book a consultation.

The problem

What does a power outage do to a smart home?

It takes everything down at once and then brings it back up in the wrong order. The network, the lighting processor, the shades, the security system and the theater all reboot together, and some of them need a service visit to come back right. A generator does not prevent this, because the house still goes dark while it starts.

Heavy snow falling on a New England street during a nor'easter

Nor'easters and ice storms

Wind, heavy snow and ice bring down lines across New England every winter. Outages can run for hours or days, and a house with a generator still goes dark for about 10 to 30 seconds before it starts.

Lightning striking over the water at night

Summer lightning and surges

A nearby strike or a utility switching event sends a spike down the line. Equipment that survives one big surge can still be worn down by years of smaller ones.

Residential electrical panel with labeled breakers

Everyday sags and flicker

Most power problems never make the news. Brief sags, brownouts and electrical noise make lights flicker, screens blink and systems reboot for no clear reason.

The answer

How does a RoseWater HUB keep the house on?

A RoseWater HUB sits between the utility and your electrical panel and supplies the house all the time, not only during an outage. Because it is already carrying the load, a grid failure changes nothing inside. The same system cleans up the power your equipment sees every other day of the year.

RoseWater Energy HUB40, a battery cabinet and a power cabinet side by side

Zero transfer time

The HUB is always carrying the house. It runs as an always-online double-conversion system with no transfer switch, so when the grid drops there is nothing to switch and no gap to notice.

Industrial surge protection

Non-sacrificial, commercial-grade lightning and surge protection is rated by RoseWater for up to 40 strikes of 140,000 volts, on the grid feed, solar input and standby power.

Voltage regulation and noise filtering

Every circuit on the HUB gets steady 120 V, 60 Hz power with total harmonic distortion under 3%, whether the source is the grid, the batteries or a generator.

Battery, solar and generator in one system

Standard battery storage is 28.8 kWh, expandable. The HUB accepts up to 10 kW of solar through RoseWater's SBX10 and works with one or more generators.

Power Plan

How much of the house should stay on?

That is the first question in a Power Plan, and the answer sets the size of the system. RoseWater's planning worksheet sorts a home into three tiers of protection. You pick what matters to you and we turn it into a design.

Essential protection

The systems you cannot live without: network, lighting and home control, security, refrigeration and anything with a processor that would be a real problem to lose.

Usually a HUB20

Enhanced protection

Everything in Essential, plus the other electronics in the house. A generator often covers the heavy loads during a long outage while the HUB keeps the sensitive ones clean.

Usually a HUB40, often with a generator

Whole Home protection

Every circuit in the house, for owners who do not want to repair or replace anything after a storm, especially built-in equipment.

Multiple HUBs or a 3-phase system, designed for the house

How we work

Who handles what on a project?

We handle the design, the coordination and the long-term support, and we bring in licensed trades for the electrical work. You deal with one team from the first conversation to the next storm.

The result is a house that needs fewer service visits after storms, because the equipment never saw the outage. Read the full scope of our whole-home battery backup installation work.

  1. 01

    Plan

You build a Power Plan on this site. We review it, then visit the house to look at the service, the panels and the room where the system will live.

  2. 02

    Design and specify

We work from your single-line diagram and panel schedules, register the project with RoseWater's engineering team, and specify the HUB, battery and any solar or generator tie-in.

  3. 03

    Coordinate the electrician

A licensed electrician makes the connections at your panel. We work with yours or bring in one we trust, and we coordinate your solar installer or generator contractor if you have one.

  4. 04

    Commission and program

RoseWater's technician delivers and commissions the HUB with us on site. We bring it onto your network and make sure your control, network and AV systems ride through a test outage.

  5. 05

    Ongoing support

You get access to the HUB's built-in monitoring, and its alerts can come to us as well as you. Warranty claims and service go through us, so there is one number to call.

In their words

What do RoseWater owners and dealers say?

They say the outages stop being events. Here is how two of them put it on RoseWater's site.

“While we do have power outages, we never know when it happens because our internet keeps running and our lights stay on.”
Chris Matthews
Principal, Acoustic Design Group, Scottsdale, AZ
“Our service calls were reduced by 80%.”
Nick DeClemente
Elevated Integrations, Armonk, NY, comparing service reports a year after a Hamptons HUB install

Homes and trade

Who is a RoseWater system for?

It is for homes where a flicker or a reboot is expensive: large houses full of automation, coastal homes that lose power in every storm, and second homes nobody is there to check on. We also work directly with the builders, architects and electricians who design those homes.

FAQ

Backup power questions

What is a RoseWater Energy HUB?

What is a RoseWater Energy HUB?

A RoseWater HUB is a whole-home power system that sits between the utility and your electrical panel. It conditions every circuit it serves, stores energy in a battery, and keeps the house running with zero transfer time when the grid fails. It also brings solar and a generator into one managed system.

How is a RoseWater HUB different from a generator?

How is a RoseWater HUB different from a generator?

A generator starts after the power goes out, so the house goes dark for about 10 to 30 seconds and every device reboots. A RoseWater HUB is always online, so there is no gap at all. It also cleans up the power you use every day, which a generator does not do. Many homes keep a generator too, and the HUB can use it to recharge during a long outage.

How is it different from a Tesla Powerwall?

How is it different from a Tesla Powerwall?

A Powerwall is a battery that switches the house over when the grid fails. A RoseWater HUB is a power conditioner first: every circuit it serves runs through it all the time, with surge protection, voltage regulation and noise filtering, and there is no switchover when the grid drops. It is built for large, technology-heavy homes where a flicker or a surge is expensive.

What does a RoseWater system cost?

What does a RoseWater system cost?

Every system is sized to the home, so we do not publish prices. Cost depends on your service size, which loads you back up, battery storage, and whether solar or a generator is involved. Start a Power Plan or book a consultation and we will give you a clear number for your house.
